Playing tight when recruiters or scouts are watching
Struggling with prep school athlete performance anxiety in high-pressure moments
Balancing demanding boarding school academics with elite athletics
Confidence tied only to wins, goals, or stats—making every game feel like make-or-break

What We Do (and Why It Works)

Tools to Play Loose, Stay Composed, and Perform When It Counts

We use proven sports psychology strategies for high school athletes—adapted for the pressures of New England prep and boarding schools:

GAME-DAY RESET

Pre-performance routines that clears your head and locks in focus

COMPOSURE REPS

Bounce back fast after mistakes on the ice, field, or diamond

FOCUS FRAMEWORK

Lock onto what matters between shifts, innings, or possessions

IDENTITY WORK

Build a healthy athletic identity beyond results, preventing burnout

RECRUITMENT RHYTHM

Stay sharp across showcases, interviews, and admissions without losing consistency

Whether it’s hockey, lacrosse, or baseball, our approach equips athletes with the mental toughness skills prep school players need to stand out under pressure.

Balancing Performance and Wellbeing

More Than Just Performance

At Valiance, we know elite performance and mental health are deeply connected. Our coaching approach balances:

Performance skills: focus, composure, confidence under pressure
Performance skills: focus, composure, confidence under pressure

This dual focus means athletes don’t just play better—they feel better about who they are.

For athletes in Connecticut, we also provide licensed counseling if deeper support is needed.
For athletes outside CT, our work is strictly skills-based coaching, focused on performance and resilience.

Why Valiance?

Built for New England Prep and Boarding School Athletes

ATHLETES WHO’VE LIVED IT
Our team knows what it means to compete under pressure. Justin not only has coached high school soccer but also has competed as a high-level CrossFit athlete and coach. He brings firsthand knowledge of what it takes to prepare, perform, and recover at an elite level — lessons he translates directly to prep athletes striving for consistency and confidence. As a Certified Mental Performance Consultant, Matt has supported high school, college, and MLB baseball players on cutting-edge performance and mindset training. Alexa competed as a Division I golfer at Fairfield University. Cori played Division III basketball at Clark University. Brendan Holland played Division III basketball at Montclair State. We understand the highs, lows, and demands of elite competition—because we’ve been there ourselves.

ELITE PREP EXPERIECNE
We’ve supported hockey, lacrosse, baseball, and basketball athletes at top New England prep and boarding schools, including Avon Old Farms, Hotchkiss, Brunswick, Millbrook, Fairfield Prep, Taft, and Lauralton Hall.

EVIDENCE-BASED + REAL-WORLD SAVVY
Our coaching blends sport psychology techniques—visualization, self-talk, pre-performance routines—with the perspective of athletes and coaches who have lived the prep and collegiate grind.
